To whom it may concert,

I have known Daniel thought his participation in the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra since the summer of 2003 when he first joined the orchestra as violinist.

I consider him to have a very good technical level and a very personal way of playing. Furthermore, he is a young man of an extraordinary musical intelligence and intellectual capacity.

In 2007 the West-Eastern Divan orchestra played a major role at the Salzburg Festival with concerts, Master classes, conferences and a symposium with distinguished politicians and artists. During the workshop Daniel conducted the orchestra in one of the rehearsals.

In the course of this year Daniel Cohen will observe rehearsals and concerts of the Staatskapelle in Berlin. As a conducting student he will also participate in rehearsals and a concert with the Orchestra Academy of the Staatskapelle Berlin in March.

It is for this reason that I recommend Daniel for his application procedure and all further endeavors.

I have worked with Mr. Cohen at the St. Magnus Festival (Orkney) conductors course and at the Royal Academy of Music.

He is a splendid, gifted and experienced conductor with real insight into how to make his inner visions of the score become audible reality.  Players like him and enjoy the work together.

I recommend him without hesitation.

To whom it may concern,

I have met Daniel Cohen for the first time in 2007 when he helped to prepare the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra for my visit, conducting Bartok's Four Pieces for Orchestra op 12. I have since met him again as an active conductor at the Lucerne Festival Academy were I instructed him on Répons in several lessons and a public masterclass.

I was very impressed with Mr. Cohen's ability to handle the technical complexity and musical demands of this difficult score. I was delighted to see that Mr. Cohen is not only dedicated to the performance of new music but is also constantly looking for new ways to present it to the audience and re-thinking it's relevance to the audience for which it is performed.

I recommend his warmly,
